The Palmtree Reading Program Phonics and Reading Comprehension
The Palmtree Publishing Reading Program (books A to D) is a balanced literacyprogram, utilizing a combination of methods to teach a variety of subjects:phonics, reading comprehension, elementary grammar, and handwriting skills, providing a most effective methodical approach to teach English reading, especially to ELL students
Some of the highlights of the program:
- Step-by-step phonics instruction paces in a rhythmic fashion, beginning with consonant and short-vowel sounds, followed by two-letter blends, twin-consonant endings, and then to the next level; long-vowels, digraphs, and diphthongs, and so forth.
- Easy-to-read stories are introduced early on, giving students a chance to practice reading skills immediately following lessons.
- Handwriting lessons and worksheets imbue students with important penmanship skills, plus enhance the cognitive reading and writing experience.
- Reading comprehension and reading enhancement skills are gradually introduced as the program advances; teaching skills such as sequencing, cause and effect, identifying details, main idea, making inferences, drawing conclusions, and more.
- Lessons and stories are presented in child-friendly format, with crisp and large fonts, and lots of colorful pictures and drawings.
The program introduces basic concepts of English grammar, designed with differentiated instruction and ELL students in mind; introducing nouns, verbs, simple tenses, pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs, without inundating the students with too much information that might impede their progress.
